Did you know USDA Rural Development had a program that can support folks who are looking to build/buy or repair homes in the rural areas of Georgia? Neither did I until I attended a workshop presentation a few years ago. There are many programs that are hidden from view, and you have to know where to look to find them. This guaranteed loan for housing program will be of particular interest, I think, to my farmer friends. Frankly anyone who is opened to living in the rural areas of Georgia should take a look!
Before you get turned off by the word rural, lets look at what that work REALLY means! “The Census Bureau defines rural as any population, housing, or territory NOT in an urban area” (United States Census Bureau, 2010). It’s really that simple! Rural means fewer people. While agriculture may be the most prevalent reason people migrate to these areas, it can also be a viable alternative for those who are looking for a slower pace. It can be a place where you catch your breath and enjoy the sounds of nature with fewer people around.
Now that many of us are working from home, maybe this will be a good choice for you and your family. I hear you asking, “What are some of the other benefits of rural living?” I’m glad you asked!
Benefits of Rural Living to Consider:
· More privacy
· Less stress
· More opportunities to see wildlife and natural beauty
· An opportunity to grow your own food/self sufficiency
